About Dr. Todd Hanna
Dr. Todd Hanna, MD, DDS, FACS, the driving force behind Hanna Face and Jaw, is more than just another surgeon. With double board certification in oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as microvascular head and neck reconstructive surgery, he is an innovator, mentor, lifelong learner, and craftsman deeply dedicated to his practice.
Born in New York City, Dr. Hanna’s journey into medicine began with a personal experience—a severe dog bite to his upper lip. Instead of being traumatized by the event, he was inspired by the surgeon who treated him, developing a fascination for anatomy and reconstructive surgery. This spark was nurtured by his mother, a trained artist, as they recreated sketches of facial anatomy together, thus planting the seeds for Dr. Hanna’s future career.
Dr. Hanna’s journey to becoming a leading face and jaw surgeon was carefully and intentionally mapped out, from undergraduate studies at New York University that cultivated the blend of art and science that characterizes his work today, to his dual-degree in dentistry and medicine.
Choosing to attend NYU College of Dentistry and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine was no accident. He excelled in both, graduating at the top of his class and earning membership in the prestigious Omega Kappa Upsilon honor society and receiving Alpha Omega Alpha honor society awards.
Dr. Hanna then embarked on the demanding six-year oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, which is recognized as one of the premier programs in the nation. There he learned full-scope face and jaw surgery, focusing on orthognathic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgery.
Specialized Training & Fellowships:
To further expand his expertise, he pursued two fellowships.
The first was at the University of Maryland’s Shock Trauma Hospital in Baltimore, where he honed his skills in reconstructing the face, head, neck, and jaws by transplanting the patient’s own tissue from elsewhere on the body to repair tumor and trauma-related defects.
His pursuit of excellence then led him to a second fellowship in full-scope head and neck surgery and reconstruction with the Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) at Northwell Health-Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan. This was a highly customized fellowship under the direction of world-renown experts in head and neck, skull base, and facial plastic surgery.
This unique combination of training sets Dr. Hanna apart in his field.
His relentless pursuit and deep-seated commitment to knowledge and excellence through his education, residencies, and fellowships have made Dr. Hanna a uniquely comprehensive expert as one of the few surgeons in the nation with this combination of training.
Establishing a Private Practice:
But Dr. Hanna is not just defined by his qualifications. His philosophy to PER.FORM is deeply embedded in his approach to surgery. In his own words, “I want to leave a positive mark on my patients and their lives, bringing them back to where they feel like the best version of themselves.”
